40 Plus Stage Company proudly presents “Nativity According to the Gospels,” written, directed and choreographed by Mabel P. Robinson. “Nativity,” the much anticipated and long-time community tradition, tells the story of the birth of Christ from a grandmother’s point of view. It’s presented in a West African motif, using gospel music, African rhythms, with a variety of dance styles and spoken word to tell the story.

“Nativity” is performed during a season in which we celebrate joy, hope, and unity among all people. Our production features talented local artists of various disciplines and ages. The creative team offers exciting and flawless sounds by Maestro Tony Gilliam, festive and intriguing costumes designed by Frenchie Slade, and scintillating light and scenery by Professor Arthur Reese. This production comes together under the direction and choreography of Mabel Robinson, who performed on Broadway and in film. Ms. Robinson is the former artistic director of the NC Black Repertory Company and producer of the National Black Theatre Festival.

From upbeat and joyous music and dance, to tender, touching drama, “Nativity” is sure to touch the hearts of all who experience this unique presentation of the Christmas story.
