THE CHRONICLE

Nearly 200 people came together Friday, Feb.10 to pay their last respects to Rolland Greene, a former music teacher at Carver High School.

Greene, 82, died from injuries he sustained during a robbery in his home on Jackson Street in Rural Hall. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies say Green told them that two men had entered his home and demanded money, and when he refused, they assaulted him and proceeded to take his money.

The primary autopsy showed that Greene suffered broken ribs and lacerations to his head. According to deputies, the suspects are still at large. A neighbor and close friend, Rodney Davis, said Green was the type of person who would literally give you the shirt off his back.

“We would spend hours together talking about all types of things,” said Davis. “He was a firm believer in supporting each other and working together; he will truly be missed.” Pastor of St. James Methodist

Church, Rev. Dr. Paul F. Perkins, said Greene was the type of person who had the ability to inspire others and get things done. Before his health began to fail him, Perkins said during church board meetings when disagreements would arise, Green was the one who would control the situation.

“I could always count on Mr. Greene to get thing done here around the church,” he continued. “When he spoke people really listened. He was a true asset to the St. James Family.”

During the funeral service Greene’s son, Rolland Jr., said, “Dad always told us to stay away from the crazies,” he continued. “I hate that he couldn’t get away from them himself.”
