New professional football team looking for talent ahead of first season

On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Winston-Salem Wildcats, the city’s first professional indoor football team, will open player tryouts. The Wildcats are the newest members of the AIF League (American Indoor Football League) and will play their home games inside the LJVM Coliseum.

Tryouts will begin at 12:30 p.m. inside the D1 Sports Training Facility at 1901 Mooney St. During the tryouts, Wildcat coaching staff will be evaluating all players in attendance.

The tryout is open to anyone over the age of 18 who has completed high school and is not currently under contract with any professional football team. The pre-registration fee for tryouts is $50; the registration fee on the day of tryouts is $65.

Those looking to participate in the tryout should wear sneakers or molded cleats. No metal cleats will be allowed on the turf.
