…An adventure in learning, that is! And this year, the event is FREE for first-timers!! If you’ve never been, now’s your chance to discover FUN!

Did you know the Shepherd’s Center hosts a university style learning series for adults who are 50 or better every spring and fall at a different location around Winston? It’s true, and here’s what people say about it…

WOW!! I have had the BEST 4 days!!  I wish everyone took the opportunity to participate in Adventures in Learning.  I will never miss another one & will try to bring some more friends next spring.  I cannot imagine all the phone calls & coordinating you did to put that educational experience together for us.  The top-notch instructors, authors and tour guides were VERY knowledgeable, encouraging and interesting.  I thoroughly enjoyed the informative and entertaining lunch programs showcasing the talent & culture we have here in Winston-Salem.  I will miss getting up next Tuesday morning & not being able to attend Adventures in Learning!

Shepherds+Center+Adventure copy Shepherds+Center+Adventure copy2 Shepherds+Center+Adventure copy3Adventures in Learning takes place on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays over two weeks. It offers the opportunity to take four different classes each day. These classes are an hour each.

In the morning, you may choose between an introduction to the practice and benefits of mediation or “The Bible in an Hour” at 9:30am. The next session at 11:45am offers the option of WFU Political Science and Economics professors discussing national and world topics such as U. S. Trade Policy and Defense Technology or performances from the UNCSA’s departments of dance, drama, music and film.

The lunch session (catered at a cost of $6.50 per person per day) will offer a sneak peek into the personal sides of such celebrities as Austin Caviness, David Ford and Robert Moody. Did you know Robert Moody broke his leg in a parachuting accident over the holidays?

The day ends with one more choice in the afternoon. The selections for the last session are

“An Introduction to the Mountain Dulcimer” or to take local tours. Tour choices this year include: MESDA, UNCSA’s Film School, Reynolda House and the Triad Research Park’s regenerative sciences department to view the 3-D printers currently fabricating human ears and noses for returning war veterans. (Tours cost an additional $15 to cover entrance and transportation costs.)

The event takes place this spring on April 1, 3, 8 & 10, 2014, at Peace Haven Baptist Church located near the corner of Peace Haven and Robinhood at 3384 York Road.
