health, filmThe film “Terra Firma” will have its North Carolina premiere and fundraiser tomorrow (Friday, June 27) at 5 p.m at the Andy Griffith Museum-Surry Arts Council, 218 Rockford St.. in Mt Airy.

“Terra Firma” is a documentary film that weaves together the stories of three women combat veterans who served in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan in the early days of the “War on Terror.” After struggling for years with combat-related PTSD, they have each found a way to heal the hidden wounds of war through farming.

The screening is being hosted by veteran and North Carolina farmer Anna Mann, one of the women featured in the movie. Proceeds from the event will help get Mann’s delegation, The Women’s Farmer Veterans Network, to Italy this year for an annual world meeting of food communities known as Terra Madre.  The delegation, made up of women farmer veterans and family members from across the country, will carry the message that veterans and victims of the 44 current conflicts across the globe can find healing and a new purpose by growing food to feed their communities.

Mann and filmmakers will take part in a post-screening discussion. Tickets are $10; childcare will be provided and a raffle will be held.

Seating is limited, reserve at http://terrafirmancpremier.brownpapertickets.com.
