Naturalization Ceremony tomorrow at Old Salem

Old Salem Museums & Gardens will host a Naturalization Ceremony tomorrow (Friday, July 4) at 10 a.m. The Ceremony will be conducted by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services staff and will take place on the same spot where the first official July 4th celebration in the U.S. took place in Salem in 1783. This will be the fourth year that Old Salem has hosted a Naturalization Ceremony.
The Ceremony will take place on Salem Square at South Main Street and Academy Street. Dozens of new citizenship will be the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and presented with certificates of new citizenship.
There also will be speeches by several dignitaries, including a keynote address by Dr. Ajay Patel, director of the Center for Enterprise Research and Education at Wake Forest University. His research has focused on compensation and conflicts of interest, cross-border M&A, and the impact of security offerings on valuation and firm performance. His current research focuses on the impact of formal (law), informal (culture) and behavioral factors on CEO compensation.
Admission to the Naturalization Ceremony is free. Old Salem Museums and Gardens will also hold its annual Independence Day Celebration, which includes fun activities and events for the whole family, throughout the day, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to these events are $23 for adults and $11 for children. Other local Fourth of July events will include fireworks at the Winston-Salem Dash Game on July 4 (Go to http://www.wsdash.com for tickets.) and a a Community Band Patriotic Concert on Sunday, July 6 at the Miller Park Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m.
