Exdous sends Southside kids home happy

Exodus United Baptist Church, 2000 Wilbur St., hosted its Fourth Annual Southside Back-to-School Give-a-way on its lawn on Monday, Aug. 18.
The Exodus flock stuffed 220 book bags with school supplies for elementary and middle school children. The items were donated by church members who supported the event by taking part in a fundraiser.
Invitations were only extended to the Southside community – residents living in the 27107 and 27127 zip codes. Children had to be accompanied by a parent and bring proof of school assignment and residence in order to receive the supplies.
“We accept our call to serve the Southside Community, and I am grateful to be a service to our community and grateful for the support from the members of the ministry, as well as the support from other ministries in this back-to-school event,” said Pastor Alvin E. Carlisle Jr.
The event was coordinated by the Special Events Committee of Exodus United Baptist Church, which is chaired by Ronee Walker-Wilson. Also, free clothing was provided by the outreach bus ministry Take it to the Streets, which Billy Corne started in 2002.
Entertainment was provided by various local gospel groups and performers, including the GC3Ministry praise singers and mime group, the Exodus Elite Step Team, the Galilee Baptist Church mime group, the New Life Spanish Church Dance Ministry Vino Nuevo and Fresh Fire Junior Dancers.
