Beautiful Butterflies, Inc. will host its 4th annual Lupus 5K Walk/Run event on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Greenway Trail in High Point. Registration for the event is free and begins at 8:45 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. and should approximately end at 12 p.m.
This annual Lupus Walk/Run is a fun-filled opportunity for people with lupus and their families to come together and raise awareness about the fight against lupus. Participants can show their support by forming or joining a team. Teams should be comprised of at least 5 members.
On the day of the walk, photos will be taken of teams to help commemorate the event. There will also be giveaways. Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that can affect any part of the body but is especially harmful to the nervous system, heart, joints, skin, lungs, liver and kidneys.
Napper learned she had lupus a decade ago after suffering from hair loss and seizures. Since then and despite her own health ups and downs, she has dedicated herself to raising awareness and helping others.
“Many people see Lupus as the hush-hush disease,” she says. “We have to be willing to change how people view it. A quote by William Blake states it precisely – ‘the man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind.’ We Have to be willing to change.”
