Donald Hampton named principal of new school
Donald Hampton will be the first principal of Smith Farm Elementary School when it opens in August.
He has been the principal of Middle Fork Elementary School since 2007 and will start at Smith Farm this spring once the school receives its certificate of occupancy.
Smith Farm is the last new school being built with proceeds from the 2006 bond referendum. It will have a theme of global studies and offer a language immersion program in kindergarten that will expand one grade level each subsequent year. The school is off Motsinger Road in southeastern Forsyth County and will be in Zone 1.
Hampton has spent his educational career in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Before coming to Middle Fork, he was the assistant principal at Hall-Woodward Elementary School for seven years and the curriculum coordinator at Ibraham Elementary School for four years. He also taught at Latham Elementary School, where he was named the school system’s Teacher of the Year in 1994-95 and won the Winston-Salem Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator Award in 1995.
Hampton earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master of arts in teaching degree from Salem College.
