Alicia Morris Bailey, the assistant principal at Ashley IB Magnet Elementary School, has been named the 2012-2013 N.C. Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year by the N.C. Principals and Assistant Principals Association (NCPAPA).

Bailey received the award because of her exceptional leadership at Ashley and her high expectations for students. She believes that success is achieved through hard work and high expectations. During her time at Ashley, Bailey has set the bar for students to rise to the occasion by creating and implementing programs that are unique to Ashley. She is known for going over and beyond to connect with parents and the community in order to foster success for all students.

She will serve as North Carolina’s representative for the National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award given by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). The award promotes educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and calls attention to the fundamental importance of the assistant principal.

Bailey will also be recognized at the Spring 2013 conference of the N.C. Principals and Assistant Principals Association and N.C. Association of School Administrators.

Bailey became the assistant principal at Ashley for the 2011-2012 school year. She began her career in administration at Southwest Elementary School, where she served with Mike Hayes, who was the principal at that time.

Bailey has spent her entire career in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system. She began her teaching career as a fourth-grade teacher at Petree Elementary School. After teaching there for several years, she taught academically gifted students at Griffith and Kimberley Park elementary schools. She then spent three years as the writing instructional coach at Cash Elementary School.

Bailey earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at N.C. A&T State University. She earned a master’s degree in education at Winston-Salem State University. She later attended High Point University for her academically-gifted certification and Gardner Webb University, where she completed the requirement for her license in administration.

She is the recipient of several awards and honors, including the 2007-2008 Kernersville Chamber of Commerce Teacher Education Grant and the 2007 Outstanding Young Educator Award from the National Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Education Association.
