SSAAH to honor local pastors at annual gathering
Dr. Harold Martin, chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University, will be the keynote speaker at the Society for the Study of Afro-American History for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County’s annual banquet. It will be held Friday, March 22 in the Pavilion Ballroom at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 460 N. Cherry St., at 7 p.m.
“Trailblazing, Historical Afro-American Clergy: Liberating and Educating Our Youth” is this year’s theme.
The Society will honor prominent local ministers, including Dr. Hector Sintim, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church; Dr. Darryl Aaron, First Baptist Church; Bishop Sheldon McCarter, Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church; Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Mt. Zion Baptist Church; Dr. John Mendez, Emmanuel Baptist Church; Rev. Prince Rainey Rivers, United Metropolitan Baptist Church; Dr. Paul A. Lowe Jr., Shiloh Baptist Church; and Dr. Sir Walter Mack Jr., Union Baptist Church. Tickets, which are $50, may be purchased by check at the New Winston Museum, 713 South Marshall St., from noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
