Community Service Award Honorees: Angela Caesar & Raven Scales
As students at North Carolina A&T, Angela Caesar and Raven Scales learn lessons in classrooms every day. Away from campus, they are learning as well, through giving back and lifting up others.
There are few facets of community service that the young ladies are not familiar with. Their selfless service has benefitted adults and children and impacted everything from the political landscape to healthcare and homelessness.
Volunteer veterans, Angela and Raven have been freely giving their time since they were in grade school. Both Samaritan Ministries for the Homeless and an East Winston pharmacy have benefitted from Raven’s dedicated service. Angela’s contributions have aided the missions of a local pediatric clinic and child care facility.
Both of them poured their hearts and souls into the recent election cycle. As volunteers for the Democratic Party and Obama for America, they knocked on doors, phone-banked and assembled information packages. Their tasks were similar at the Earline Parmon for Senate Office. Their efforts there helped Forsyth County elect its first black state senator. And even with their full plates, the two future healthcare professionals still find time to service their church, Union Baptist, in numerous ways.
For living up to all we hope for and expect from our young adults, The Chronicle and the community are proud to bestow Community Service honors upon Angela Caesar and Raven Scales.
