Bishop receives Zeta award
The 2013 recipient of Nu Tau Zeta Chapter’s Community Service Award is a native of Winston-Salem whose motto is, “To God be the glory for the things He has done.”
And God has done great things in the life of Rev. Dennis W. Bishop, senior pastor of First Waughtown Baptist Church.
Bishop preaches two services each Sunday, along with special services throughout the East Coast and still commits himself to a variety of community service missions, including mentoring local school kids, working with inmates and serving on a number of boards.
Perhaps most notably, Pastor Bishop is committed to supporting and encouraging his members who are pursuing higher education. For the past 10 years, he has devoted at least two weeks each fall to visiting every member of his flock who is enrolled in a college or university, no matter where they are. These visits take Bishop on trips around the country.
With more than 40 years in the ministry, Pastor Bishop will observe 30 years as pastor of First Waughtown this month.
He is the father of four and grandfather of four. He was surprised at the Finer Womanhood Luncheon by his daughter, Min. Robin Featherstone, who is a Zeta who lives in Durham.
