For the third consecutive year, a Carver High School team took part in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), a premier engineering challenge for high school students from across the nation.

Teams of students, working with teachers, mentors and volunteers, are given six weeks to conceptualize, design, build, program, modify and test a robot for the competition. Student participants have an opportunity to earn scholarships.
This year’s challenge tasked teams with designing robots able to climb and throw and block frisbees. The Carver Yellow Jackets Robotics Team designed two robots: one with climbing skills and the other with frisbee-playing abilities.
The experience has enriched team members.

“Being a member of the robotics team has helped me to be more organized as a student,” said Ribyan McClain, a junior who wants to attend North Carolina State University to obtain a science degree.

His teammate Michael Jimenez, a sophomore, also wants to attend NCSU to major in engineering.

“I became involved in robotics because I am interested in learning how machines operate and function,” said Jimenez.
Each team entering the robotics competition has to secure funds for the three day competition in Raleigh.
