Rooms to Go help schools create comfy reading spots
Rooms To Go has donated furniture to Livingstone College as part of its Reading for Excellence Centers program.
“We’re grateful to Rooms To Go for donating such nice furniture to the College,” said Livingstone President Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. “It has definitely been put to good use, and it’s not uncommon to walk inside The Walls Center (student union), library or to stop by one of the residence halls and see students sitting on the chairs or couches while reading or studying. It’s imperative for our students to graduate with the necessary skills required for success in today’s global economy, and I’m certain our partnership with Rooms To Go will aid in that quest. Likewise, I’m especially pleased and proud Rooms To Go chose Livingstone College as the institution from which to launch their initiative.”
About two years ago, Rooms To Go officials announced plans to establish Reading for Excellence Centers in dormitories by donating furniture to select colleges and universities in their markets. Winston-Salem State University has also received furniture through the program.
The Rooms To Go program dovetailed with Livingstone College officials’ literacy promotion, Quality Enhancement Program. The Reading for Excellence Centers initiative was officially launched last year when furniture began arriving at Livingstone’s student union, library and two of its residence halls. The partnership between the school and company was facilitated by Dr. Frankie Jones, CEO of Phoenix One Enterprises, Inc. Malcom E. Nightingale, a Charlotte area Rooms to Go manager, worked closely with Livingstone officials to successfully launch the Reading for Excellence Centers. Nightingale and other Rooms To Go officials were expected on the school’s Salisbury campus last week for a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour at the Student Union.
