The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, a new professional biking event that will include several races, will be held in downtown Winston-Salem from June 15–16.
There will be a total of five competitive races with a prize purse of $33,000.  The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic will be delay broadcasted on national television.
Professional bike teams from across the country will compete in the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic.  Among the local teams registered to compete are Team Smart Stop presented by Mountain Khakis, a men’s team, and Pain Pathways, a women’s biking team.

“We are excited to bring a cycling event with national racing stature to Winston-Salem. The Winston-Salem Cycling biking community is strong and is growing rapidly,” race director Raymond Boden said.  “The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic will be another event that will bring much-deserved attention to our city and, in years to come, will likely grow into an event with an international following.”

The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic will kick off on June 14 with a black tie event for sponsors and community leaders.  Race day activities on June 15 and 16 include a health expo at Civic Plaza.  June 15 events will be co-hosted by professional cyclists George Hincapie and Robbie Ventura, who competed in the Tour de France. Hincapie and Ventura will lead riders in the Gran Fondo race from downtown Winston Salem to Yadkin Valley and back.

Winston-Salem Professional Tennis, which also manages the Winston-Salem Open tennis tournament each August, is producing the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic.
