Area EMT wins Burwell Award
The 2013 Annual John Burwell Excellence in EMS Award was presented to Brian Edward Booe, a Stokes County EMT-P, on Thursday, May 9 at the Hawthorne Inn.
The award recognizes those who have made a significant impact in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) within the counties of Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The late John Burwell dedicated his life to improving pre-hospital care, the quality of life of local citizens and the overall regional EMS system. Recipients of the award exemplify the same qualities Burwell so richly exhibited.
Booe has more than 20 years of fire and EMS experience and currently serves as a training officer and a lieutenant with the City of King Fire Department.
With his assistance and leadership, the EMS pre-hospital care cardiac arrest survival rate has improved over the last two years. Booe is also responsible for placing more than 80 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the region and establishing Operation Medicine Drop Program, which placed permanent medicine drop containers in all law enforcement agencies in Stokes County.
