Chamber resolution calls for adequate health funding
The Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce has issued a resolution to North Carolina legislators in support of adequate funding for the health care industry.
As the North Carolina legislature prepares to take action on tax modernization, the Chamber is urging the local delegation to vote against tax reforms that include the repeal of sales tax exemption for non-profit health care providers in our state. The Chamber also re-affirmed its support for continuing to allow non-profit hospitals to be exempt from local property taxes.
The health care industry is the single largest industry in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, providing more than 31,500 jobs for its citizens. In addition, local academic research is funded by clinical revenues, and thousands of local students are being prepared for careers in the health care field.
“The bottom line is if they repeal the sales tax exemption, health care systems will be forced to eliminate additional local jobs,” says Gayle Anderson, president and CEO of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce.
