Winston Lake Family Y volunteers honored
The Winston Lake Family YMCA recently honored two of its most dedicated volunteers for their efforts to strengthen the foundations of community.
The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina honors adults who demonstrate exceptional volunteerism and consideration toward others with the YMCA Strong Award. Wayne Hosch was selected by the Winston Lake Family YMCA.
Hosch has been a strong supporter of the Winston Lake Family YMCA for 20 years. An active board member for 10 years, he just completed his second term as board chair.
“When Wayne is not at the branch, he is only a phone call away anytime a staff member or someone in the community needs him,” shared Richard Daniels, vice president of Operations for YMCA.
Rayona Johnson was the YMCA Youth Leadership Award recipient. She is a freshman at Quality Education Academy (QEA) who volunteered more than 200 hours with the Y’s K-5 summer camp program as a counselor-in-training last summer. Rayona has also volunteered her time with the Jazzy Jumpers Rope Skipping team, helping teach during beginner levels at practice, as well as during workshops. Rayona has been an active participant in various YMCA programs over the years, including Jazzy Jumpers, Winston Lake Trackers and Youth Achievers.
“The Y could not exist without the support of volunteers. These members of the community give their time and talent to make the Y’s work possible,” said Daniels. “Wayne and Rayona truly represent the YMCA mission of ‘Helping people reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body.’”
