ObamaCare 101
Forum to explain new healthcare law
Novant Health and the Congregational Nurse and Health Ministry Program of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem will hold an educational forum about the Affordable Health Care Act (ObamaCare) and health care exchanges that will take place as a result of it.
“Making Sense of the Affordable Care Act and Health Care Exchanges” will take place on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7–8:30 p.m. in the Novant Health Conference Center at Forsyth Medical Center, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway. The event and parking are free.
Adam Linker, a policy analyst with the Health Access Coalition of the North Carolina Justice Center, will provide an overview of the health care law changes and will explain when the various components of the law will take effect.
Lee Dixon of Community Care of North Carolina, an experienced health policy manager, will discuss health care exchanges, who would qualify and how the exchanges will operate in North Carolina.
Following the presentations, there will be ample time for questions.
The wide-ranging Affordable Care Act includes provisions that, among other things, ends insurance pre-existing condition exclusions for children; keeps young adults covered under their parent’s policy until age 26; ends arbitrary withdrawals of insurance coverage; and guarantees a right to appeal.
