Good finishes for Vikings
North Forsyth runners performed admirably at the Sept. 21 Beeson Park Invitational in Kernersville.
The Vikings finished 13th as a team in the 5k and standout performances were turned in by many on the team, including fourth-place finisher Andy Romero.
A sophomore, Romero, also a starter on the soccer team, gained the respect of the more seasoned runners with his strong second loop and a finish of 16:59 – more than 90 seconds faster than anyone in the last three seasons at North.
North’s Diego Garcia and Sammy Garcia also finished strong. Both runners finished in less than 20 minutes. Leon Smith, Aldo Lopez and Misael Luis all ran their season best times. Overall, the boys cross country team produced 14 personal records.
Jasmine Romero finished first among the Lady Vikings with a personal-best time of 23:15. Her teammates Zulem Hernandez and Vanessa Herrera were also strong. It was Herrera’s first-ever high school cross country meet.
