Aggies walk for a good cause
Members of the Twin City Alumni Chapter of North Carolina A&T State University formed a team for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons.
Eleven Aggies – Terasa Williams-Biles (president of the chapter), Nonnie Jackson, Iman Moore, Jillian Jackson, Robert Woodruff, Robert Brow Jr., James Kennedy Jr., Erica Lowery, Lynn Breeden, Diane Piggott and Asheena Love – participated in the two-mile walk around the park. The walkers carried flowers to signify their level of involvement. A blue flower signified a walker knows someone with the disease; a yellow flower signified they were caring for an individual with the disease; an orange flower signified support for finding a cure; and purple signified they lost someone to the disease.
Held by the Alzheimer’s Association, Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. It is held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide. Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.
The Aggies plan to increase their visibility in the community this year and invite area Aggies to join them in this endeavor. Membership dues are $50, and the chapter meets the first Wednesday of each month from September through June at 7 p.m. at the Winston Lake Family YMCA, 901 Waterworks Rd.
