Coach Crowell displays their conference championship plaque during pep rally

First-year Carver High School Head Football Coach Germane Crowell has started out with a bang.
He took the Yellow Jackets to a 11-2 record, a conference championship and a second round berth in the playoffs.

“My inaugural season as head football coach at Carver was a wonderful experience,” said Crowell, a onetime NFL star. “I appreciate the overwhelming support of the administrators, faculty, staff and community. Hopefully, we exceeded expectations and will continue the excitement and anticipation for the Carver Yellow Jackets to return to one of the premier programs in the state.”

The coach hopes that he can help show the city the true Carver High School.

“Over the years, Carver has acquired a negative perception as to what the learning environment and athletic standard has become, but the negative perceptions about Carver High School are not reality,” he said. “As the head coach of Carver, I have come to discover that Carver has a family-oriented approach as to how we handle our students. Regardless of public opinion, I know that the academic expectations for all students at Carver are high.”

Former Carver Athletic Director Aaron Bailey was a member of the committee that hired the former Detroit Lions All Pro receiver. He says Crowell, who is also an ordained minister, has gone above and beyond.

“During his interview, he made multiple references to a scripture found in the book of Habakkuk, chapter two and verse two which states, ‘Write the vision, and make it plain,’” Bailey recalled. “He showed evidence throughout the interview that this scripture was very meaningful and foundational in his vision for the football program at Carver High School.”

Bailey and Travis say the coach has brought “Friday night fever” back to David Lash Stadium and has created a new atmosphere with his “whole student approach” to coaching and leadership.
Crowell says the future of Carver Football is bright.

“Although we did not obtain our goal of becoming state champions, we made great strides towards reestablishing a winning legacy; most importantly, I believe we laid a foundation for academic success as well,” he said. “We are very optimistic about the future and will continue to build on the success of our first year as a coaching staff and a team. We have a very talented group of players that should be a catalyst for future success.”
