A Big Omega Thank You
On behalf of Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., I want to thank each member of the community for their support of our programs over the past two years.
As a result of your financial support, we were able to award $20,000 in scholarships to 20 college-bound African American young men and present our first two African American History Quiz Bowls for high school students in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Thanks to Atkins, Carver, Parkland, Glenn and West Forsyth high schools for their participation. Atkins won our competition both years and was the second-place finisher at the Sixth District Competition, where the school represented the Psi Phi Chapter against the other Omega chapters in North and South Carolina.
We were also able to send 23 young men, between the ages of 8 and 14, to the Boys Camp hosted by the Sixth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Camp Hanes in King.
Special thanks to all of our Miss Mardi Gras participants for their contributions to our Omega Mardi Gras Extravaganza and Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Parade fundraising efforts. Our reigning Ms. Mardi Gras is Denise Smith. Her royal court is made up of First Runner-up Ms. Padonda Campbell, Miss Scholarship Delores Harris and Miss Manhood Cynthia Joel. Ms. Mardi Gras 2011 was Latrina Leak, and her royal court included First Runner Up Latandra Vance, Miss Manhood Beverly Robinson and Miss Uplift Heather Davis.
A special thanks to all of our sponsors, contributors and supporters for their generosity, which helped support the work that God and Omega called the men of Psi Phi Chapter to do over the past two years. Your support of the Que’s First Party Series and the Fall 2011 Probate Show, both firsts in our chapter’s history, was invaluable. Also thanks for your participation and support in the programs and services held to celebrate our Achievement Week.
Special recognition to my brothers, officers and committee chairs for their participation and support, which provided us the largest membership in Psi Phi Chapter history for a single year and in back to back years. Thank you Steven Banks, the 2011 Sixth District Talent Hunt Winner; Bro. Emory Jones, 2011 Sixth District Co-Omega Man of the Year for the Psi Phi Chapter; and Sarah Huesman for representing Psi Phi Chapter in the 2012 Sixth District Talent Hunt competition.
Thanks to our families, friends and members of the community that attended our year-end Appreciation Cookout at the Red Barn at Tanglewood Park on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Special thanks to my quette, Jacqueline Bethea, and the quettes of my brothers for the effort you expended to allow us to have two of the most successful years in the history of the chapter.
Thanks to the Winston-Salem Chronicle for covering our events and programs.
