Church holds Fall Festival as alternative to trick or treating

Halloween is the day many kids across the country head out to trick or treat for candy. With the unknown dangers of going door to door, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church held a “Trunk or Treat” fall festival for the children of its congregation.
The different ministries of the church decorated car trunks for the children to visit for candy. The church provided candy and games for them to play once they visited. According to Chad Armstrong, director of church ministries, the church likes to organize the event to allow the children to have fun in a safe atmosphere.
“I think it’s incredibly important to show the community, to show families and to show people that church is a place for fun,” said Armstrong. “It’s really important as society progresses with the dangers that are prevalent and able to hurt our children, it’s important to have fun but have fun in a controlled environment.”
He went on to say that it’s great to let kids have fun in a Bible-based environment. He said they are not celebrating Halloween but instead enjoying the autumn season.
Along with the candy and games, the children were provided with free food, a live DJ and a bounce castle to enjoy. One member brought an RV that was converted into a candy shop for the kids to walk through.
came out in full costume to partake in the festivities. Everyone seemed to enjoy the different decorative trunks and games the ministries put together.
Director of the Children’s Ministry, Lisa Smith, says this event is important because its an outreach to the community to minister with them and to fellowship with each other.
“It’s great to have the kids learn how to fellowship and love one another,” said Smith. “In today’s society, we don’t have enough opportunities for the kids to get together in a safe environment that caters just to them, so this is a chance for them to do that.”
Galilee has been holding this event for years and it continues to grow. This coming Sunday, the church will vote on the best trunk, and that ministry will receive an award.
