New principals chosen for Meadowlark Middle and Piney Grove Elementary Schools
Matt Dixson will be the new principal at Meadowlark Middle School and Brendan Elkins will be the new principal at Piney Grove Elementary School.
Dixson has served as Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools chief human resources officer since 2016. Prior to that appointment, he served as the principal at Southwest Elementary starting there in 2011. Dixson was an assistant principal at Moore Magnet Elementary from 2007 to 2011 and before that, he taught third and fourth grade. Dixson earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Salem College. He has his Education Specialist Certification and Administrative Licensure from Appalachian State University. Dixson replaces Joey Hearl, who is moving to be the principal of Forsyth Early and Middle College in July.
Brendan Elkins has served as the assistant principal at Piney Grove since 2016. Prior to that, Elkins served as a principal intern at Caleb’s Creek from 2015. From 2008 to 2014, Elkins was a teacher at Southeast Middle School. Elkins earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Elkins replaces Bob Vorbroker, who is retiring.
