Dr. Kenneth Simington, WS/FCS Interim Superintendent, has announced he will retire at the end of his contract, August 31, 2019.  Simington said: “It has been my great pleasure, and distinct honor to serve the students, schools, families, this community, and fellow colleagues.  In the meantime, as we move toward a new school year, we will continue to make preparations so that the 2019-20 school year will be the best yet in WS/FCS.”

Simington spent most of his 30+ years in education in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. He was named WS/FCS Interim Superintendent in late February. Most recently, he served as Deputy Superintendent since 2016. Prior to that role, he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional and Student Services and the Chief Academic Officer. Simington has been in multiple roles during his tenure, starting as a school counselor.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He has his Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  He attended Carver High School and graduated from East Forsyth High School.

Upon being named interim superintendent, Simington said: “I am thankful to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education for the opportunity to serve during this time. I look forward to working with all of our students, families, teachers, administrators, staff, and the community.  It is important that the district stays focused on the work ahead for the best outcomes for our students.”

On Monday, in closed session, the WS/FCS Board of Education will conduct the final round of interviews for a new superintendent.  The WS/FCS Board of Education narrowed the original field of 44 candidates from 16 states to six finalists in late June.  The board hopes to have a new superintendent named by the end of August.
