*Friday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m., Opening Reception for “Cultural Expressions,” the new exhibit by Tony “T’Afo” Feimster at Delta Arts Center, 2611 New Walkertown Road. Enjoy a special performance, light hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and an artist talk. RSVP by calling 336-722-2625. Exhibit will run through December 30.

*Friday, Sept. 15, 7-11 p.m., A new art gallery is opening at 606 Trade St. NW during Art Crush. DOSE Artist Collective is a nonprofit organization designed to provide a safe space for artists and anyone to work and connect. The space features live music, works by local artists, and a cozy interior. It offers writer workshops and a circle for anyone to learn and collaborate. Entry is free but donations are encouraged to keep the space running. DOSE Artist Collective also features The Lab, an experimental space for underground and emerging artists to showcase work, develop projects, and find professional opportunities. Artists can submit a form to showcase their work. The Lab happens monthly on Mondays from 7:30 – 10 p.m. in the parking garage of Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts on North Spruce Street.

*Friday, Sept. 15, Innovation and Cinema returns to beautiful Bailey Park’s lower lawn for their season of films presented by a/perture cinema. This evening’s film is “Space Jam: A New Legacy” (2023). Vendors available starting at 7 p.m. Film starts around 8:30 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket. Free.

*The School of Music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) will present “Ten Thousand Birds,” an immersive, outdoor performance inspired by the songs of birds that are native to or migrate through the region where it’s performed, on Saturday, Sept. 16. The work, by Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy Award-winning American composer John Luther Adams, will be produced by contemporary classical ensemble Alarm Will Sound founding member Michael Harley and will be performed by Music students on Daniels Plaza on the UNCSA campus. Musicians will move amongst audience members as the enveloping work unfolds. The concert will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 16. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for non-UNCSA students with valid ID online or by calling the box office at 336-721-1945.

*RiverRun International Film Festival will present a return engagement of a 2023 festival favorite, “B-Side: For Taylor,” directed by Christina YR Lim, free in its Virtual Theater from September 18-October 2. A year after the sudden death of her mother, Taylor, a 14-year-old adoptee, has secretly grown obsessed with finding her birth family in Korea. The loss has also taken a severe toll on her relationship with her father, Bill, a high school teacher who medicates his grief with alcohol. As summer begins, a Korean family unexpectedly immigrates to her all-white neighborhood and Taylor befriends a new maternal figure, Areum, who agrees to help locate her birth family.
