Emmanuel Baptist Church is celebrating its 110th church anniversary Oct. 19 – 20, with the theme “Celebrating Sankofa: A Legacy of Faith, honoring the past, embracing the future.”

In 1914, a group of devoted Christians began meeting for prayer meetings, and their faithfulness culminated in establishing Emmanuel Baptist Church, “God with us.”  Living by faith and trusting in God throughout the years, Emmanuel continues to impact lives with God’s power, grace, mercy and blessings.

The celebration begins Saturday, Oct.19, at 4 p.m., with a ‘walkthrough Emmanuel’s history’ tour, food and fellowship, movies, and games. All activities are free, and the public is invited to join in the celebration, which includes activities for all age groups. The celebration culminates on Sunday, Oct. 20, where the guest preacher will be Rev. Dr. John Mendez, the illustrious former pastor who served as the senior pastor of Emmanuel for 36 years. Also, remaining members from Emmanuel’s Smith Street location will be recognized during the morning worship service.

The public is invited to attend as we celebrate all that God has done. Emmanuel, “The Church in the Heart of the Community, the Community in the Heart of the Church,” is located at 1075 Shalimar Drive, Winston-Salem, where the Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II is the senior pastor.
