On Monday, April 21, students from Mt. Tabor High School participated in a special “Lunch and Discuss” session hosted by the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Community Engagement Team. The session featured guest speakers Army recruiters Hollis and Strum, who shared their personal journeys and encouraged students to consider the broad range of opportunities available through military service.

Both recruiters spoke candidly about how traditional pathways were not the right fit for them and how joining the Army provided them with structure, purpose and meaningful career advancement. Their testimonies resonated with the students, who remained highly engaged throughout the discussion, asking thoughtful questions and expressing genuine interest in the diverse career options available in the Army, beyond traditional combat roles.

Students also expressed enthusiasm about participating in Work Out Wednesdays, a weekly fitness initiative hosted by the Army at Hanes Mall every Wednesday from 5-6 p.m.

This impactful event offered students a valuable opportunity to connect with mentors, explore career pathways, and strengthen community ties through positive, purpose-driven engagement.
