Sept. 25 is International Ataxia Awareness Day and a local single mother of four is doing her part to raise awareness and help find a cure for the rare disease which affects one’s ability to walk, speak and swallow, and that her son Daemond has been battling for the past five years.

This year, encompassing three weekends and three different cities – High Point, Greensboro and Winston-Salem – the Expo was bigger than ever.
Brandon Davis accomplished a lot during his time with the Reynolds Demons baseball team. He collected a host of accolades and honors that has garnered him a lot of attention from the next level. After serious consideration, Davis has chosen to play his college baseball at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).
All local middle and high schools will have access to metal detectors this school year, but they will only be used at big events and not during the average school day, according to district leaders. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) has also adopted a new crisis response model and installed keypad entry at larger schools with multiple buildings.
While addressing nearly 400 fellow Democrats, Cherie Beasley, who is looking to become the first Black woman to represent the state in the U.S. Senate, said during the November election they must stand together to fight for democracy and the state of North Carolina.
