Blurring divisive lines by ‘Bridging 52’
In cities across the country, bridges often represent a dividing line for communities. As part of the organization’s celebration of 100 years of service, last weekend the United Way of Forsyth County hosted “Bridging 52,” an event designed to blur that dividing line and bring the entire community together.
The event, which was held on the Fourth Street bridge over Hwy. 52, featured food trucks, live entertainment and more than 12 information tables from United Way partner agencies.
The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County coordinated the completion of a colorful street mural on the 4th Street bridge that reads “LIVE UNITED.”
In a press release detailing the event, United Way of Forsyth County President and CEO Antonia Monk Richburg said, “An event to literally bridge the communities on both sides of Hwy. 52 has long been discussed and anticipated in our community, and we’re so excited to finally be able to make it happen. By working together, we can ensure that the impact of this highway on our community becomes a positive and sustainable one.
“Our mission at United Way is to bring the community and its resources together to solve problems that no one organization can address alone, so we decided our 100th anniversary was the perfect time to finally make this event a reality,” said Richburg.
