A few days before Mother’s Day, Anita ‘Boss Lady’ Dean Arnette, long-time radio personality with The Light radio station, will crown the 2025 Mother of the Year. Since 2000 Boss Lady has invited listeners to send in letters to nominate their mothers or other deserving women for the crown. The winner will be announced at The Light’s 25th Annual Mother’s Day Celebration on Thursday, May 8, at noon at The Enterprise Conference and Event Center.
From humble beginnings in a conference room with just a few participants, the event has grown so much over the years that the crowd arrives hours before the event is scheduled to start to make sure they get a good seat.
Dean Arnette, who is the voice of gospel music in the Triad, and the staff at The Light spend hours reading through the hundreds of emails and handwritten letters they receive for the contest.
“I just thought about having a celebration, never thinking it would get this big. When we first started, we had a few ladies … I feel like with my faithfulness, God has blessed this event because it’s more than a Mother’s Day event, it’s a celebration of life,” said Dean Arnette in an interview with The Chronicle in 2018.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “As a Mother, I Trust in God.” Letter submissions must be centered around the theme to be considered for Mother of the Year.
In addition to Mother of the Year, awards will also be presented to the first, second and third runners-up. In year’s past, winners have received trips to other U.S. cities, cruises out the country, gift certificates, gift baskets, and other prizes.
Lunch will also be served and every woman who attends the event will receive a gift. There will also be raffles and other giveaways.
