Carver students hear from Superior Court judge
The Services To Youth Facet of the Winston-Salem Chapter of the Links, Inc. presented a forum, “Youth and the Law,” at Carver High School on Feb. 25.
U.S. Federal Court Judge James Beaty gave the keynote address after being introduced by Link LaJoi Wilson-Moore.
Beaty highlighted cases involving young offenders. He encouraged students to, “Make wise decisions, because the rest of your life is at stake.”
During the question and answer segment of the forum, Beaty highlighted the youthful mistakes of notable dignitaries and how they learned from their mistakes. Carver seniors listened to the advice and asked questions about the legal system and law careers.
Services To Youth Facet members Toy Beaty, Constance Johnson, Davida Martin, Kay Clark, Laverne Gaither and Connecting Link (husband of a Link) Willie Clark were all in attendance.
Carver Assistant Principal Kenneth Jordan gave closing remarks, telling students, “You can learn the easy way or the hard way.”
