African American history and culture took center stage last weekend as thousands of people gathered at Innovation Quarter for the city’s 25th annual Juneteenth Festival.
As part of the city’s Juneteenth Celebration, on Friday, June 14, Triad Cultural Arts hosted the 3rd Annual Queen Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant at Paisley Middle School.
Recently the Winston Lake Family YMCA took a giant leap to becoming the Winston Lake REACH Center. On Monday, June 10, representatives from Winston Lake and YMCA of Northwest N.C. broke ground on renovations to the facility located on Waterworks Road.
For the first time in history, a woman has been chosen to lead Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). During a press conference held last week, Bonita J. Brown was officially announced as the 14th chancellor of WSSU.
Every two years since 1989 downtown Winston-Salem is transformed into Black Theatre Holy Ground when the N.C. Black Repertory Company hosts the biggest event in Black theatre. And this year with a new name, the International Black Theatre Festival is back July 29 – August 3.
More than 15 friends and relatives from Winston-Salem met up with one another at the Original Gullah Festival in Beaufort, South Carolina, during the Memorial Day weekend from Friday, May 24 – Sunday, May 26.
Another Winston-Salem legend has been honored for his accomplishments on the court. On May 10, Richard Daniels Jr. was elected into the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Sportsmen Club Hall of Fame.
