The Castle Heights Neighborhood Association, which has long worked for better conditions for its residents, is stepping up its game through a collaboration with the poverty-fighting Partnership for Prosperity (P4P). The initiative has tapped Winston-Salem State University’s Center for the Study of Economic Mobility (CSEM) as its research partner.
Mt. Tabor alum and 2005 Metro 4A Player of the Year, Kendra Samuels-Eaton, will now roam the sidelines of her alma mater, Western Carolina University, as associate head coach for the women’s basketball team.
After months of hard work and gallons and gallons of paint, last week the community was invited to see the unveiling of the hallway mural project at Carter G. Woodson School (CGWS). Throughout the summer current students and alumni worked with local artists Leo Rucker and Fredo Felix to turn the dull hallways into beaming pieces of art.
The Quarry will be named after former director of the Recreation and Parks department, Tim Grant. Grant lobbied for several years to make the quarry into a park that everyone could enjoy. Grant was the director of the Recreation and Parks Department from 2003-2016.
