David Bishop has a heart for helping children, because someone helped him growing up. That was the major motivation for him to start the David Bishop Scholarship.
Last week the Winston-Salem Chapter of the NAACP (WSNAACP) awarded $5,000 in scholarships to five different local students. Caden Davis, Reynolds High School, Breanna Chadwick, Parkland High School, Robert “BJ” Moore III, Atkins High School, Chloe Fletcher, Carver High School, and Lauren Valle, Atkins High School, each received $1,000 to help further their education.

Read Write Spell has named Esharan Monroe-Johnson as executive director. A not-for-profit organization based in Winston-Salem, Read Write Spell leverages the power of community volunteers to provide free, long-term, one-to-one reading instruction to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools students who struggle with literacy skills.
On Saturday, July 17, the Delta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. scholarship committee, along with the Sigma Beta Club advisory committee, held a scholarship presentation for their recent Sigma Beta Club graduates. The scholarships, named in honor of distinguished service chapter member Darryl A. Prince, Sr., were presented at Grace Fellowship Church located at 4015 Brownsboro Road.
DTLR, one of the country’s most successful lifestyle retailers with more than 240 stores in 19 states, recently announced the recipients of its first ever HBCU Scholarship Program. The scholarship awarded a total of $10,000 to five high school seniors from across the country who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program at an HBCU. Each scholarship recipient received $2,000 toward the 2021-2022 school year.
