On Monday, Aug. 26, students across the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District returned to the classroom as summer vacation officially came to a close with the first day of school. While the first day of school is always exciting, students at Ashley Academy for Cultural and Global Studies had a little extra excitement as they received words of encouragement from dozens of people from all walks of life as they entered the building.

After more than a decade in the classroom as a teacher, this school year, longtime educator Dr. Janet Taylor will step into a new role as principal.
The Kyndall Project held their fourth annual Back to School Jam at Rupert Bell Park on Aug.17.
On Monday, Aug. 26, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County students at Paisley IB Magnet, Lowrance Middle, and Konnoak Elementary Schools will start the year in brand new facilities.
From June 20 to July 25, almost 50 children at the W. R. Anderson Center, the 14th Street Community Center and Ephesus Junior Academy benefited from one-hour sessions three days a week.
As part of a new partnership with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, North Hills Elementary School received $50,000 last week to help fund things such as new uniforms, field trips and food for students in need.
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Angela Pringle as the next superintendent.
Davidson County Community College will participate in the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Bridge to Career Cohort program offering 30 scholarships in the amount of $500 each for local industrial areas seeking skilled labor specialists.
Halima Leak Francis has been named program director and professor of practice for the Tulane University School of Professional Advancement Public Administration Program.
