The 2019-20 JV basketball season featured many up-and-coming ball players from around the county. The Chronicle wanted to honor these young men for their efforts on the court with an All-County Team to show our appreciation for their hard work.
McDonald’s, along with the local organizing team, have partnered with the Hoop It Up 3×3 Basketball Tour owned by former NBA superstar Kevin Garnett, to bring an exciting, fun-filled, community-based weekend to Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be played at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville on August 15 and 16.
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) senior Cierra Thompson earned her place as one of the best in the nation when she was selected to take part in the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.
Jemel Craig-Blakely is a defensive tackle for the Glenn Bobcats football team. He took up wrestling a few years ago as a way to stay in shape during the football offseason. Admittedly, he was not very good his first year, but once he gave the sport his all and received the proper coaching, his career began to take off.
Christiana Young is only a freshman at Winston-Salem Christian School (WSCS) but is already racking up accolades and honors. She was named player of the year in the Central Carolina Conference, scored over 1,000 points, and was four points away from being a state champion.
Following a stellar freshman year, Marc Raye Jr. had his eyes set on higher goals for his sophomore year. One of those goals was to hit the 1,000-point threshold before his sophomore season ended and he did just that.
Doug Middleton is a Winston-Salem native and is currently a free safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL. For the past three years, he has been holding his Dream the Impossible Initiative (DII) in the city for local kids. This year, it was held at the Ken Carlson Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, Feb. 15.
