According to city officials a group of doctors at WFBH have developed a new mask design that is effective in preventing the transmission of germs and bacteria. Renfro Company, a Mount Airy based sock maker who moved its headquarters to Winston-Salem last year, will produce the mask locally and have already earmarked 300,000 for locals, including 60,000 for those living at or below the poverty threshold.
Earlier this week the first grant recipients of the COVID-19 Response Fund, a partnership with the United Way of Forsyth County, were announced. The $1,062,000 grant was awarded to 15 local nonprofits, but not everyone was happy about the announcement.
Here in Forsyth County in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, we’ve seen a groundswell of organizations, non-profits, churches, businesses, and individuals come forward and do their part. And for the past two weeks, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C. has been doing their part to ensure children across the state don’t go hungry.
Armed with face masks, gloves, and of course, hand sanitizer, representatives and volunteers with Family Services partnered with OSO Restaurant Group (o’So Eats) to provide 500 meals for families in need at First Baptist Church (Highland Avenue) last week.
