A total of $1,501,000 has been awarded to 37 local nonprofits in the second round of grants awarded from the COVID-19 Response Fund for Forsyth County.
According to city officials a group of doctors at WFBH have developed a new mask design that is effective in preventing the transmission of germs and bacteria. Renfro Company, a Mount Airy based sock maker who moved its headquarters to Winston-Salem last year, will produce the mask locally and have already earmarked 300,000 for locals, including 60,000 for those living at or below the poverty threshold.
Earlier this week the first grant recipients of the COVID-19 Response Fund, a partnership with the United Way of Forsyth County, were announced. The $1,062,000 grant was awarded to 15 local nonprofits, but not everyone was happy about the announcement.
