Cemetery effort identities names on headstones
Those who clear and clean up Happy Hill Cemetery are still looking for volunteers, especially those with loved ones who were laid to rest in the historic African-American cemetery.
Volunteers have been able to compile a list of names they’ve been able to read on the headstones there with (V) indicating Veterans and (M) indicating Masons.
If you recognize a name or need additional information, contact Maurice Pitts Johnson at 336-815-8417 or 336-978-2866 and leave your contact information. Groups, including fraternal groups, are welcome to join the cleanup, along with anyone looking to participate in community service. A cleanup is happening Saturday, June 24 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
