Church to host unique musical experience
The Friends of Music will welcome renowned organist David Briggs to town for a unique concert experience.
In addition to playing works by Bach, Briggs, Franck, Haydn, Saint-Saëns and Vierne, Briggs will perform an improvisation to Charlie Chaplin’s 1917 silent movie, “The Immigrant.”
“This concert will be a special treat for music and film lovers in our community featuring a dynamic musical performance and improvisation to an extraordinary silent film,” said John Cummins, organist and choirmaster at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where the concert will take place on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m.
The Friends of Music is a special community music series set at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St., which provides exceptional acoustics and access to one of the finest organs in the state.
Briggs is an internationally renowned organist whose performances are acclaimed for their musicality, virtuosity, and ability to excite and engage audiences of all ages. Fascinated by the art of improvisation, he frequently performs improvisations to silent films.
He is currently Artist-in-Residence at St. James Cathedral in Toronto.
