City to host track and tennis events
Winston-Salem has landed two more sporting events that are expected to have a combined economic impact of nearly $1 million.
The United States Tennis Association – North Carolina (USTA NC) Adult League 40’s Division Championships will be played here in June 2013 and June 2014. The Twin City will also welcome those competing in the March 2015 USA Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships.
“These are two more strategic athletic competition wins for our sales team and for Winston-Salem,” said Richard Geiger, president of Visit Winston-Salem. “We appreciate our local sports partners, JDL Fast Track and Randy Pate Tennis, whose support and facilities played a pivotal role in securing these bids.”
Geiger said the USA Track & Field North Carolina Association, including its Masters Track & Field Chair Eric Braschwitz and President Al Davis, were instrumental in confirming the 2015 USA Masters event, which will attract an estimated 1,000 attendees.
The back-to-back USTA NC championships are expected to generate 500 hotel room nights and more than $350,000 in direct economic benefit to Winston-Salem each year.
“From the longtime wonderful programming, like Young Folks Tennis to the new incredible Winston-Salem Open, Winston-Salem is teeming with tennis. With so many excellent tennis venues for our players, we know they will have a tremendous experience in Winston-Salem in 2013 and 2014,” said Chris Bryce, director of Adult League Tennis with USTA North Carolina.
