Club Unveils Tribute Banner
The Carver Senior Citizens Club had its Annual Christmas Luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Carl H. Russell Sr. Community Center.
The club unveiled its new banner, which features the images of Dr. George Washington Carver, the late world renowned scientist for whom the club is named, and former Mayor Pro-Tempore Carl H. Russell Sr., for whom the rec center where the Club regularly meets is named. The banner will be displayed at the club’s meetings and special events.
Carmen Russell represented the Russell family at the program, thanking the club for honoring her father. Other special guests included Rev. Touré C. Marshall, senior pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church (USA).
Barbara Hayes, the club’s program/social committee chairperson, was the mistress of ceremonies. Other program participants included Carrie Bardwell, Christine Smith, Juanita Pitts, Vivian Rollins, Judge Roland H. Hayes, Tommy L. Wright Sr., Beverly Ligons and club President Rudolph V. Boone Sr.
After the delicious meal, gifts were presented to the Russell Center staff members. Attendees sang Christmas carols before adjourning.
The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 11 a.m. Those who are 55 or over are invited to join the club, which will help the 2013 State Conference of North Carolina Senior Citizens Clubs in November.
