Come worship and celebrate at “Mother Lloyd” Presbyterian Church on March 16

Rev. Timothy Bates will preach at the New Mother Lloyd Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. Rev. Bates is the pastor of Cameron Presbyterian Church and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Statesville, North Carolina.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, “ Mother Lloyd” is also one of the oldest church structures in downtown Winston-Salem. It is the “Mother Church” to Grace Presbyterian Church, founded in 1907, and Dellabrook Presbyterian Church, founded in 1956.
“Mother Lloyd,“ which celebrated its 154th Church Anniversary in September, was formed in 1870 as part of a national movement by the northern missionaries to establish African American Presbyterian Churches in the South after the Civil War. Mother Lloyd’s first members were originally members of First Presbyterian Church, Winston- Salem.
“Mother Lloyd,” once considered to be the hub of the Black community, survived the urban renewal that destroyed the thriving Black businesses along the Highway 52 corridor. Mother Lloyd is a member of Salem Presbytery, and continues to do outreach to the local community and to a children’s home and school in Ngong, Kenya, through the Sister to Sister International Outreach Ministry that brings wholeness into the broken lives of women and children in the region.
The community is invited to come celebrate this new beginning with “Mother Lloyd,” as we reach out to the Winston-Salem community and continue the historic legacy of Lloyd Presbyterian Church by providing a variety of ministries to serve future generations.
