The Shepherd’s Center needs volunteers 

The Shepherd’s Center needs drivers to help older adults get to and from doctor appointments or grocery trips. To explore this volunteer opportunity, email volunteer@shepherdscenter.org or call 336-748-0217. 

There are also volunteer opportunities for visitation and respite care with The Shepherd’s Center that offer both flexibility and the chance to give a caregiver a much-needed break. To learn more about ways you can help, email volunteer@shepherdscenter.org or call 336-748-0217. 

 

2nd & 4th Thursdays 

Caregiver support 

The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to offer a Caregiver Support Group, conducted by a trained facilitator and providing a safe place for caregivers of people living with dementia to develop a support system, explore ways of coping, and learn about resources. The group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, 10-11:30 a.m., at The Shepherd’s Center (upper level), 1700 Ebert Street. 2nd & 3rd Saturdays 

Cemetery Cleanup 

Volunteers are needed at the Happy Hill Cemetery on the 2nd and 3rd Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes, bring gloves and any yard equipment you have. Ninth to 12th grade students are encouraged especially if you need service hours. LOCATION: 888 Willow Street at the intersection of Pitts and Willow Street off Free Street. May 13, 20, & 27 

Retirement Reimagined  

The Shepherd Center, 1700 Ebert St., will host a three-session workshop designed for those contemplating retirement or newly retired. Attending this workshop will help individuals and couples transition more smoothly into this very exciting next chapter of life. It will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 20 & 17, from 4-6 p.m. The $40 cost covers workshop resource materials and refreshments. Participants should plan to attend all three sessions. Workshop is limited to 16 individuals. If you have questions or would like to reserve a seat, call 336-748-0217 or email info@ShepherdsCenter.org.

We appreciate your community news. Here’s how you can help us to process your news more efficiently: 

*Please give us complete information about the event, such as the sponsor and address, date, time and place of the event and contact information so that the public can contact someone for more information if needed.  

*Please submit items in document form in an email or Word or PDF attachment.  

*Submit photos as attachments to emails as jpegs at least 4 inches wide by 6 inches deep rather than sent on documents. Please send captions with photos.  

*Please do not send jpeg fliers only, since we cannot transfer the information on them into documents. 

The deadline is Sunday at 11:59 p.m. to have all calendar items submitted for that week’s paper.
