Couple to make presentation at ACS meeting
The AIDS Care Service (ACS) Board of Trustees will present its annual meeting on Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. at the New Winston Museum, 713 S. Marshall St.
The public is invited to attend the gathering. It will include the election of new Trustees and a special presentation by Dr. Sharita Womack and Rev. Lawrence Womack entitled, “Oh No, Say it Ain’t So: HIV, HAART and Aging.”
Their presentation centers around the effects of aging and HIV as it pertains to long-term anti-retroviral therapy and the increasing incidence of HIV in the aging population.
“Effective HIV drugs have only been around for 20 years. Many people living with HIV are already dealing with medication side effects and drug toxicity,” said ACS President Jesse Duncan. “Now with a greater longevity of life, they are also dealing with the health complications of aging, like heart disease, stroke, obesity, arthritis and more. This is also a reality for the growing number of seniors who have recently acquired HIV. For the health of our clients and community, we have to find new solutions to these new challenges.”
Parking for the meeting is available in front of and behind the New Winston Museum as well as on the west side of Marshall Street and overflow parking is available in the Old Salem Visitor’s Center lot.
