Winston-Salem native Jairus Wilkins, a junior stand out offensive linemen at  Elizabeth City State University, is ready to take on the CIAA favorites Winston-Salem State University on Saturday for the conference championship.

A 2009 graduate of Parkland High School, Wilkins is a communications major who stands at 6’2” and weighs more than 280 pounds. His massive frame made him an obvious offensive lineman at Parkland. After graduation, he played in a junior college program at the Carolina Sports Academy while taking classes at Guilford Technical Community College. He was discovered and recruited by Elizabeth City during a combine held at the Academy.

“Jairus stood out to me with his athleticism at his position,” said Elizabeth City Offensive Coordinator Coach Alvin Parker. “I knew he had the ability to play anywhere along the offensive line. He came from a very solid background with great parents who instilled good values in him. He comes to practice and meetings everyday with the same thing in mind: getting better. He is a pleasure to coach, and I look forward to having him two more years.”

Wilkins is the son of Bishop Melvin and Sharessa Wilkins, pastors of New Generation Praise & Worship International Ministries, and the proud big brother of Isaiah Wilkins.
