Letter to the Editor: Thanks for supporting Carver’s band
Many THANKS to all who responded to our plea for the Carver High School band’s need.
Unofficially, we did not succeed in reaching our established goal of raising $10,000 or more by the end of September; however, we anticipate the pledges of some individuals, organizations and churches will help us exceed the goal.
We have faith in the community! We believe that when more citizens learn of the continuing need at the school, they will see the need to get on the bandwagon, and make generous contributions of money and used instruments.
The volunteer musicians came through with amazing performances (and) contributed much to the success of the benefit concert. They are to be commended for their sacrifices and service. We truly believe that those who missed the concert, missed the opportunity to see and hear some of the finest musicians in the area, including The Healing Force, Janice Price-Black, Richard Riki Navada McEachern, Logan Reynolds, Charles Burns, Galvin Crisp, Keith Byrd, Joe Robinson and Joe Greene. Renee Vaughn of 97.1 QMG and the Tom Joyner Morning Show did a fantastic job of introducing the performers and making other contributions.
Near the end of the concert, Carver Band Director Juan M. Eckard presented plaques to John Polycron and me (Rudolph V. Boone Sr.) for our contributions and inspiration to the band and school.
The sponsors of the raffle/benefit concert were the Carver Band Boosters Club (President Steven Floyd, Secretary/Treasurer Gilda Smith), the Carver High School Alumni Association (President Malishai Woodbury), the Carver High School PTSA (President Beverly Bradshaw), the Grace Presbyterian Church Concert Series Committee, Eckard, Emory Jones (a former Carver band director), Camille Roddy, Delphine Caldwell Jones and a number of band students and Booster Club members.
Contributions are still being accepted. Send checks and money orders to: Carver High School Band Boosters, c.o Juan M. Eckard, 3545 Carver School Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105.

event coordinator and former band director
